Every other major brand (Oticon, Phonak, ReSound, Widex, Signia) is manufactured in Denmark, Switzerland, or Singapore. That fact matters to some patients and not to others, but it is a real differentiator.
What really sets Genesis AI apart is the health-and-safety feature set. Genesis AI is the only major hearing aid on the market with built-in fall detection, heart rate monitoring, and step tracking. It uses an accelerometer similar to what you find in an Apple Watch. If it detects the motion pattern of a fall, it automatically sends an alert to up to three contacts you set up in the My Starkey app. You can also manually trigger an alert by tapping the hearing aid three times.
This is not a replacement for a medical alert system like Life Alert or a smartwatch, but it is a real safety net built into a device most patients already wear from morning until bedtime. For older adults living alone, patients with balance issues, and families who worry about a parent falling, Genesis AI gives peace of mind without asking the patient to wear an extra device.
The trade-off: Genesis AI is not the most aggressive on noise suppression in loud restaurants (that crown belongs to Phonak Audeo Sphere Infinio) and it does not yet support Auracast public broadcast (that crown belongs to ReSound Nexia). If restaurants are your biggest complaint, we steer you to Phonak. If public streaming at airports and church PA systems is your priority, we steer you to Nexia. Genesis AI is a receiver-in-canal device and our most-fit Starkey model. Rechargeable, about 24 hours per charge without streaming. iPhone Made for iPhone with hands-free calling and Siri integration. Android ASHA for direct streaming. Includes fall detection, heart rate monitoring, step tracking, and Multiflex Tinnitus Technology for patients with ringing in the ears.
What we like: Genesis AI's health-and-safety feature set is real and works well out of the box. The My Starkey app is well-designed and older patients who struggle with tech usually manage it. Setup takes about 10 minutes in-office to configure the fall-detection contacts. What to know: Genesis AI's speech-in-noise performance is very good but not the class leader. Multiflex Tinnitus Technology is one of the best masking options in the industry, but for the strongest tinnitus relief we may combine it with Lenire treatment.
Starkey Livio Edge AI (previous generation, still-supported)
Livio Edge AI was the Starkey flagship before Genesis AI and remains available for existing Livio patients who need replacements or upgrades. Livio Edge AI has an earlier version of the health-tracking feature set (fall detection and step count, but not the full heart rate monitoring in Genesis AI). We do not first-fit Livio Edge AI anymore. If you already wear Livio Edge AI and are happy, we service them. If you are new to Starkey, we go straight to Genesis AI.
Starkey Livio (entry-level Starkey lineup)
Livio is Starkey's older entry-level lineup, still available for patients on a strict budget who want Starkey's core sound quality and American assembly without the full health-tracking feature set. Livio can be a good fit for patients who prefer disposable batteries or who do not want smartphone integration. We fit Livio with full real-ear measurement verification just like every other device.
How a Starkey fit works at ACI
- Full audiological workup. Air conduction, bone conduction, speech-in-noise, tympanometry, and if indicated, otoacoustic emissions. This tells us your loss shape and how much room there is for improvement with amplification.
- Discussion and recommendation. We walk you through the top 2-3 brands that fit your audiogram, lifestyle, and budget. Starkey Genesis AI is often on that list, especially if fall detection, heart rate monitoring, or American-made hearing aids matter to you. If a different brand fits better we say so.
- Prescriptive fit with real-ear measurement. We do not just plug in the manufacturer's first-fit software. We use a probe microphone in your ear canal to measure the actual output at your eardrum and match it to a validated prescription (NAL-NL2 for adults). Only about 30% of dispensers actually do this. Every ACI fit gets REM verification.
- Health-feature setup. If you pick Genesis AI, we spend about 15 minutes setting up the My Starkey app on your phone, adding fall-detection contacts, and showing you how to check step count and heart rate. Family members are welcome to come in for this step.
- 45-day trial and follow-up fine-tuning. You wear the devices in your real life. We fine-tune based on what you notice. Included in the fee.

Does Starkey work with the Auracast public broadcast standard?
