Call to book a Lyric candidacy evaluationWhy patients pick Lyric
Every other hearing aid on the market is a device you take out at the end of the day. Lyric is different by design. It is placed deep in the ear canal by an audiologist and worn continuously for 8 to 16 weeks at a time. You never take it out. You never change a battery. You never clean it yourself. You do not put it on a charger at night. It stays in through the shower. It stays in when you sleep. It stays in when you exercise. It is completely out of sight because it sits so deep in the canal that no one can see it from any angle.
Three groups of patients ask about Lyric most often at ACI Hearing Center. The first is working professionals who spend all day face to face with clients and want something that no one will notice. The second is first-time users who have been putting off help because they cannot stand the idea of being seen with a hearing aid. The third is anyone who is tired of the daily routine of taking hearing aids out, drying them, charging them, and putting them back in the next morning. Lyric takes all of that off your plate.
How Lyric works, step by step
- Candidacy evaluation. Before we ever place a Lyric, we look inside your ear canal to check the shape, depth, and health of the tissue. About 60 to 70 percent of adults who ask about Lyric turn out to be candidates. If you are not, we tell you at this visit and recommend a better fit.
- Placement. A certified Lyric provider at ACI Hearing Center places the device deep in your ear canal, close to the eardrum. The placement is done in the office and takes minutes. You leave hearing better and looking exactly the same as when you walked in.
- Extended wear. You wear the device 24/7. Showers, sleep, exercise, meetings, dinners with grandkids: it stays in. You do not touch it.
- Follow-up and replacement. After 8 to 16 weeks, you come back to ACI Hearing Center and we remove the device and place a fresh one. The subscription covers the replacements. If your device goes quiet before the follow-up date, we get you in faster.
Who Lyric is right for
- Adults with mild to moderately severe hearing loss
- Anyone who wants a hearing aid nobody can see
- Professionals who spend the day in front of clients, patients, students, or customers
- First-time users who have been avoiding a hearing test because they do not want to wear a visible device
- Patients who cannot tolerate anything behind the ear or sticking out of the canal
- People who want to skip daily hearing-aid maintenance completely
- Active adults who do not want to remove their hearing aids for exercise or sleep
Who Lyric is not right for
We would rather tell you Lyric is the wrong device than have you buy one that does not fit your life. Lyric is not the right choice for:
- Severe or profound hearing loss (a Phonak Audeo Sphere Infinio or Widex Moment Sheer power model will serve you better)
- Anyone who needs Bluetooth streaming from a phone (Lyric does not stream)
- Patients with chronic ear infections, recent ear surgery, or draining ear canals
- Very narrow or unusually shaped ear canals where the device cannot sit safely
- Patients who need health tracking or fall detection (Starkey Genesis AI is the better answer)
- Anyone who is not ready for the subscription model and would rather buy a device outright
Lyric vs Phonak, Oticon, Signia, ReSound, Starkey, Widex, Unitron

Lyric candidacy at ACI Hearing Center
Lyric fits about 60 to 70 percent of adults who ask about it. The candidacy evaluation is short and honest. We look at three things:
- Hearing loss profile. Lyric is designed for mild to moderately severe loss. If your loss is severe or profound in the frequencies where Lyric operates, we will point you to a Phonak Audeo Sphere power model or a Widex Moment Sheer power BTE instead.
- Ear canal anatomy. Your canal needs to be a certain depth and shape for Lyric to sit safely near the eardrum. Very narrow, unusually curved, or shortened canals are not candidates.
- Ear health. No active infections, no chronic drainage, no recent ear surgery, no severe wax impaction. If any of these are present, we treat them first and re-evaluate.
The candidacy evaluation itself is quick. If Lyric is right for you, we can often place it the same day. If it is not, we tell you at the visit and we walk through the alternative devices that will fit your ear and your life. We would rather have you in the right device than a Lyric that does not work for you.
Pricing at ACI Hearing Center
Lyric works differently from the other brands we fit. Instead of a treatment plan you buy once, Lyric is an annual subscription. The subscription covers all replacement devices, all follow-up placements, and the ongoing care to keep you hearing well for the year. You pay per year, not per device.
Because Lyric subscription pricing changes with the manufacturer and covers different length terms, call ACI Hearing Center at (337) 223-9448 for our current Lyric subscription pricing and terms. Every Lyric consultation starts with a candidacy evaluation. We will not sell you a subscription if the device is not a good fit for your ear.
If Lyric is not right for you, our other brands are priced through a treatment plan structure ranging from $4,500 to $7,500 that includes binaural hearing aids, real-ear measurement fitting, follow-up adjustments, cleanings, and our care commitment for the life of your devices. Read our complete treatment plans guide to see how those work.

Call (337) 223-9448Common questions about Lyric
What is Lyric and how is it different from regular hearing aids?
Lyric is an extended-wear hearing aid made by Phonak. Unlike every other hearing aid on the market, Lyric is placed deep in the ear canal by an audiologist and worn 24 hours a day, seven days a week for months at a time. You do not remove it. You do not change batteries. You do not clean it. You do not charge it. It stays in your ear during showers, sleep, and exercise. It is the only truly 100 percent invisible hearing aid because it sits far enough into the canal that no one can see it from any angle.
Is Lyric really 100 percent invisible?
Yes. Lyric sits deep in the ear canal near the eardrum. From the outside, you cannot see it. There is no piece behind the ear, no wire, no dome sitting in the opening of the canal. Patients who care most about invisibility, professionals who talk to people for a living, and first-time users who feel self-conscious about being seen with a hearing aid choose Lyric for this reason above all others.
How long can I wear a Lyric before it needs to come out?
Most patients get 8 to 16 weeks out of a Lyric before it is replaced with a fresh one at a scheduled follow-up visit at ACI Hearing Center. The exact length depends on your individual ear canal, moisture, and wax production. Some patients get closer to 4 months per device. Others go through them faster. As part of the Lyric subscription, replacements are included.
Can I shower and sleep with Lyric in?
Yes. That is one of the reasons Lyric exists. You leave the device in through showers, sleep, and exercise. You do wear a small water shield when you shower to keep direct water out of the canal. You can sleep on either side. You can swim on the surface for short periods with the water shield, though full submersion or diving is not recommended.
Does Lyric connect to my phone?
No. Lyric is not compatible with Bluetooth streaming. It is designed to be a listening solution, not a hands-free headset. If Bluetooth streaming from your phone to your hearing aids is important to you, one of our other brands will be a better fit. Phonak Audeo Sphere Infinio, ReSound Nexia, and Signia IX all stream from iPhone and modern Android.
What does Lyric cost at ACI Hearing Center?
Lyric works on an annual subscription rather than the treatment plan structure we use for the other brands. That means the standard $4,500 to $7,500 treatment plan frame does not apply directly to Lyric. Because Lyric subscription pricing changes with the manufacturer and covers different length terms, call ACI Hearing Center at 337-223-9448 for our current Lyric subscription pricing and terms. We will also walk you through candidacy first because not every ear is a Lyric ear.
Am I a candidate for Lyric?
Lyric is best for mild to moderately severe hearing loss. You need a healthy ear canal with no chronic infections, no recent surgeries, and a canal deep enough and the right shape for the device to sit properly. We do a candidacy evaluation at ACI Hearing Center before we ever place a Lyric. About 60 to 70 percent of adults who ask about Lyric turn out to be candidates. If you are not a candidate, we will tell you at the evaluation and steer you to a device that fits your ear and your goals.
What happens if my Lyric stops working before the follow-up?
Call us. As a certified Lyric provider, ACI Hearing Center can see you and replace the device inside our subscription program. That is one of the reasons we push patients toward a local certified provider rather than any online offer: if it goes quiet at 8 pm on a Thursday, you have a human number to call in Lafayette on Friday morning.
