Phonak Audeo Sphere Infinio: a Lafayette audiologist review

The short version

Phonak Audeo Sphere Infinio is currently one of our top three flagship recommendations at ACI Hearing Center, alongside Oticon Real and Widex Moment Sheer. For patients whose primary listening challenge is cognitively-loaded quiet conversation (a therapist listening to a patient, a lawyer listening to a client, a teacher listening to one student in a room), Sphere Infinio is often the best of that group.

Where Sphere Infinio wins in our fittings:

• Cognitively-loaded quiet listening (therapy, courtroom, one-on-one meetings)
• Universal Bluetooth Classic for hands-free calls on iPhone and Android without switching protocols
• Roger microphone ecosystem for classrooms, church services, meetings with a target speaker
• Slim housing option for very active patients or cosmetic-conscious wearers

Where Sphere Infinio is not the best pick:

• Restaurant and family-gathering background noise, where Oticon Real handles that environment better in our side-by-sides
• Classical music listeners, where Widex Moment Sheer holds an edge for complex music
• Patients on Phonak Marvel or Paradise devices that are still working well. The upgrade to Sphere Infinio is real but incremental, and ROI is marginal.

There is no single best hearing aid. There is the best hearing aid for you. That decision comes out of the fitting appointment and the 60-day trial, not a spec sheet comparison.

Under the hood: the DEEPSonic AI chip

Phonak Audeo Sphere Infinio launched in Q3 2024 and uses a two-chip architecture that is unique in the current hearing aid market. The main ERA chip runs standard audio processing (amplification, frequency shaping, feedback management). A second dedicated DEEPSonic AI chip runs a purpose-built deep neural network at 4 million parameters, specifically trained for speech-in-noise.

Why does the two-chip design matter clinically? Because the neural network has its own silicon, it can run at full computational power without pulling from the main battery or from the audio processing budget. Single-chip platforms have to compromise between amplification and AI processing. Sphere Infinio does not.

The practical result in our fitting room: Sphere Infinio holds speech clarity in quiet-but-cognitively-demanding scenarios more consistently than platforms that time-slice their AI processing. If your daily listening includes therapy sessions, legal proceedings, teaching a student one-on-one, or a lot of complex meetings, Sphere Infinio's stability shows up in the trial.

Form factors and specs

• Audeo Sphere Infinio R: rechargeable RIC (receiver-in-canal). Most-fitted at ACI. ~16 hrs per charge, ~10 hrs heavy streaming. Case holds 3 charges.
• Audeo Sphere Infinio L: larger rechargeable variant with slightly extended battery life.
• Audeo Sphere Infinio Slim: thin housing for active patients and cosmetic preferences. Battery ~12-14 hrs.
• Streaming: universal Bluetooth Classic (iPhone, Android, laptops, tablets all identically). Bluetooth LE Audio ready. RogerDirect compatible.
• Water resistance: IP68 rated.
• Tinnitus: Tinnitus Balance onboard.
• App: myPhonak (iOS and Android). Remote fine-tuning available.
• Fitting range: mild through severe. Profound loss (above 90 dB) requires the power BTE variant Phonak Naida.

Technology tiers

Phonak Audeo Sphere Infinio comes in four levels: 90, 70, 50, and 30. All four use the same two-chip architecture and the same DEEPSonic AI chip, so every tier gets the deep-learning speech-in-noise processing. The tier controls how many automatic environmental scenes AutoSense OS 6.0 recognizes, how much SmartSpeech customization is available, and how much noise-reduction fine-tuning your audiologist has to work with.

At ACI Hearing Center we fit Sphere Infinio 90 to patients with complex listening lives (frequent meetings, church, family gatherings, multiple environments in a day). We fit Sphere Infinio 50 to patients with more predictable environments where the incremental benefit of 90 does not justify the price difference. RogerDirect (built-in Roger receiver) requires Level 90.

Cost at ACI Hearing Center

Complete Phonak Audeo Sphere Infinio treatment plans at ACI Hearing Center range from $4,500 (Essential technology level, Sphere Infinio 30) to $7,500 (Premium technology level, Sphere Infinio 90) per pair. The Premium tier includes RogerDirect capability and the full SmartSpeech feature set.

Every treatment plan at ACI includes:

The 60-day trial

Every Phonak Audeo Sphere Infinio fitting at ACI Hearing Center comes with a 60-day trial. Here is what that actually looks like:

1. Fitting day. We program Sphere Infinio based on your audiogram, verify the fit with real-ear measurements (we do not skip this step), and send you home with the devices.
2. Week 1 follow-up. Come in or use the myPhonak app for a remote adjustment. Most patients need one program tweak based on real-world use.
3. Week 3 follow-up. Fine-tune based on 3 weeks of daily use. Any listening situation that is not working, we address here.
4. Week 6 follow-up. Final fine-tune. This is when we check if Sphere Infinio is the right long-term device for you.
5. Day 60 decision. Keep, return, or exchange for a different platform.

Approximately 92 percent of our Phonak Audeo Sphere Infinio trials convert to a keep decision. The ones that do not typically exchange for Oticon Real (patients whose real-world listening turned out to be more restaurant-noise driven than meeting-noise driven) or Widex Moment Sheer (music listeners).
