What we fix in the office (same day)
Most hearing aid problems are fixable in a 15 to 30 minute appointment. If we can fix it in the office, you leave with a working device the same day.
- Wax blockage: we replace the wax guard, clean the receiver, and check the microphone ports.
- Muffled or intermittent sound: usually a wax guard or receiver issue. Both are stocked for Oticon, Phonak, ReSound, Starkey, and Signia.
- Charger not charging: we test the charger, clean the charging contacts on the device, and swap the charger if it is bad. Replacements are usually in stock.
- Whistling or feedback: we resize the dome or ear mold and re-check the fit.
- Battery door broken: we replace it for the older non-rechargeable models.
- Moisture damage: we run the device through our office dehumidifier for 4 to 24 hours. This recovers about 70% of moisture-affected devices.
We do not charge a diagnostic fee. Bring the device in, and we will tell you what is wrong and what it will cost before we touch it.
Cross-brand repair
We service hearing aids that were originally sold somewhere else. If your original provider closed, moved, or cannot service your brand locally, bring it to us. We commonly repair devices originally from:
- Miracle-Ear
- Beltone
- Costco Hearing (Kirkland Signature, Rexton)
- Sam's Club (Liberty)
- HearingLife
- Audibel
- Online retailers (Eargo, Jabra Enhance, etc.)
- Any Oticon, Phonak, ReSound, Starkey, Signia, Widex, or Unitron device
An out-of-warranty service fee usually applies for devices we did not sell, but there is no diagnostic fee and no obligation to buy anything new.
Manufacturer repair with a loaner
When a device has an internal failure (dead microphone, water damage to the circuit board, Bluetooth chip failure) it has to go back to the manufacturer for repair. Turnaround is typically 1 to 3 weeks. During that window, we program a loaner device to your prescription so you are not without hearing.
The loaner is free for our patients during the repair. We handle all shipping and coordinate with the manufacturer. Most manufacturer repairs are $200 to $450 flat, regardless of what is wrong internally.
Repair or replace? An honest answer.
At 5 years old, most hearing aids reach a natural upgrade point. That does not mean you need to replace them, but it does mean parts get harder to source, and the technology gap between old and new gets significant.
We do a free comparison visit. We tell you what the repair will cost, what a new device would cost, and what you would actually gain from an upgrade. About half of 5-year-old devices that come in for repair are worth fixing. The other half are better replaced. We are not commission-based, so we do not push a sale.
Also see our battery and charger troubleshooting guide if the issue is a charging problem or a device that will not turn on.
